The treasurer is the custodian of
all public monies of the county. The Treasurer’s Office is responsible for
ensuring that local funds are collected, received, invested, safeguarded and
properly disbursed. The treasurer is a constitutional officer who reports
directly to the people of Hanover County.
The Treasurer’s Office is organized
into three divisions:
Legal authority for the treasurer’s
duties and responsibilities is governed by the Constitution of Virginia, the
Code of Virginia, local ordinances, case law, court decisions and opinions of
the Attorney General.
The Virginia Freedom of Information Act
(FOIA) guarantees citizens of the Commonwealth and representatives of the media
access to public records. The Treasurer has adopted the county’s Public Records Requests (FOIA) Policy.
