The bus is filling and the Parks and Recreation Department has some very unique senior travel opportunities in the upcoming months. Grab your friend, family member or neighbor to join you on one of these great day trips.

Adventure is everywhere as the first trip of 2017 is to the quint Historic Occoquan in northern Virginia. The former Mayor, Ernie Porta will be your guide during a riding tour of the town. You’ll learn of this town's long history and how it has grown into a popular tourist destination today. Enjoy lunch overlooking the water at the popular Madigan's Waterfront Restaurant, followed by a sightseeing boat tour aboard the Riverloop operated by the Rivershore Charters. On this two hour narrated cruise, you'll travel down the Occoquan River as your captain shares history, environmental and real estate facts along the way. You'll make a loop into the Belmont Bay section of the Potomac River with a good chance of seeing some American bald eagles. This day trip is Friday, May 19, from 7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. with registration deadline of April 28, or as space permits. Trip cost is $138 per person and includes all motor coach fees, lunch and refreshments.

Next, how does a musical excursion sound to celebrate the songs which have become part of our lives? Broadway shined with the wholesome appeal of Carousel, The King and I, South Pacific, The Sound of Music, Oklahoma! and more. On Wednesday, July 12, jump on the motor coach as we head to Fredericksburg to the Riverside Center Dinner Theatre for Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein productions of glorious, genuine hits. You’ll hear more than just a stunning collection of over 30 iconic compositions, this show features the songs as dialogue between five performers as they develop their personalities and express their perspectives on relationships. Come hungry as you’ll get to enjoy a plated lunch before the matinee. This trip lasts from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., is $131 per person, and includes all motor coach fees, lunch and refreshments. Registration deadline is June 9, or as space permits.

We invite our senior travelers to embark on these tailored one-of-a-kind trips you’ll be glad you signed up for. Preregistration and payment is required in advance for all trips. Spaces are limited, so don’t delay in registering at www.hanoverparksrec.com.
