The clerk's office's responsibilities include recording real estate documents, probate, court administration, issuing marriage licenses and concealed handgun permits.
The Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is moving to the new courthouse over a multi-week period starting on November 22, 2016, and continuing until January 3, 2017. Although the clerk’s office does not plan to close to the public while the move is ongoing,
its ability to serve people visiting the office will be significantly disrupted. It is possible the clerk’s office will have to close part or all of some days in December to accommodate the movers.
Wait times while transacting any business including recording land records, obtaining a marriage license or concealed handgun permit, filing a suit, paying fines and costs, or researching the public record will be increased.
The elevator used to reach the second floor, where the clerk’s office is located, will be unavailable for extended periods of time. Moving crews and book carts will be in the office during the workday. Only a limited number of computer workstations and no paper records will be
available. The clerk’s office staff will serve the public during this transition, but unless your need is urgent, you should avoid visiting the clerk’s office from late November through December 2016. Before visiting, call the clerk’s office at (804) 365-6120 or view the clerk’s office’s webpage at
http://www.hanovercounty.gov/ to check for changes in its hours of operation.
We look forward to serving the public from our new office located on the 2nd floor of the Courthouse at 7530 County Complex starting on January 3, 2017.
